Sophia (Σοφíα, Greek for “wisdom”) is a central idea in Hellenistic philosophy and religion, Platonism, Gnosticism, Orthodox Christianity, Esoteric Christianity, as well as Christian mysticism. Sophiology is a philosophical concept regarding wisdom, as well as a theological concept regarding the wisdom of God.

Sophia can be traced back to pre-Christianity. A black goddess (Sophia) guards the grail with the interests of the earth at heart.

oooh is this related to the black Madonnas?

This Is All Kinds Of Wrong of the Day: Salecia Johnson might have thrown the mother of all temper tantrums at a Georgia elementary school last Friday: The 6-year-old allegedly pushed fellow students, threw items off a teacher’s desk, tore material from the walls, tried to bite a doorknob, and tossed a small shelving unit (which struck the school’s principal in the leg). But when a police officer tried to calm Salecia down, she “pulled away and actively began resisting and fighting with me,” reported the cop — so, naturally, he handcuffed her and tossed her in the back of his squad car.
Salecia has since been released to her family — who, naturally, are pissed. The girl’s aunt, Candace Ruff, picked her up at the police station, where Ruff said Salecia was in a holding cell and complained about the steel handcuffs. “She said they were really tight. She said they really hurt her wrists,” Ruff said. “Call the police, is that the first step?”
Police defended the cuff-and-stuff, saying Salecia was “placed in handcuffs for her safety. When a person is put in handcuffs, it’s for their safety, it’s not a punishment.”

Ludwig Deutsch: A Nubian Guard
In ancient times Nubians were depicted by Egyptians as having very dark skin, often shown with hooped earrings and with braided or extended hair. Ancient Nubians were famous for their vast wealth, their trade between Central Africa and the lower Nile valley civilizations, including Egypt, their skill and precision with the bow, their 23-letter alphabet, the use of deadly poison on the heads of their arrows, their great military, their advanced civilization, and their century-long rule over the united upper and lower Egyptian kingdoms.
Nubians are the people of southern Egypt and northern Sudan, settling along the banks of the Nile from Aswan. Their Nubian language is an Eastern Sudanic language, part of the Nilo-Saharan phylum. The Old Nubian language is attested from the 8th century, and is thus the oldest recorded language of Africa outside of the Afro-Asiatic group.
Ancient Egypt conquered Nubian territory in various eras, and incorporated parts of the area into its provinces. The Nubians in turn were to conquer Egypt under its 25th Dynasty. Relations between the two peoples however also show peaceful cultural interchange and cooperation, including mixed marriages
There were a number of small Nubian kingdoms throughout the Middle Ages, the last of which collapsed in 1504, when Nubia became divided between Egypt and the Sennar sultanate resulting in the Arabization of much of the Nubian population. Nubia was again united within Ottoman Egypt in the 19th century, and within Anglo-Egyptian Sudan from 1899 to 1956.

Epic Fail of the Day: In a move intended to raise awareness of female genital mutilation, Swedish culture minister Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth this week commissioned a large cake shaped like a black woman, the cutting of which symbolically starting at the clitoris. The “art installation” instead turned into what most consider a “racist spectacle,” says Kitimbwa Sabuni of the National Afro-Swedish Association, and have prompted calls for the culture minister’s dismissal.

Adelsohn Liljeroth defended her actions, saying the anger should be directed at the cake’s artist, not at her, and claiming the situation was “misinterpreted.” “Art needs to be provocative,” she said.

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

I woke up today
to find myself in the other place
with a trail of footprints
from where I ran away
it seems everything I’ve heard
just might be true
and you know me
(well you think you do)
sometimes, I have everything - yet I wish I felt something

do you know how far this has gone?
just how damaged have I become?
when I think I can overcome
it runs even deeper

and in a dream I’m a different me
with a perfect you
we fit perfectly
and for once in my life I feel complete
and I still want to ruin it
afraid to look
as clear as day
this plan has long been underway

I hear them call
I cannot stay
the voice inviting me away

do you know how far this has gone?
just how damaged have I become?
when I think I can overcome
it runs even deeper
everything that matters is gone
all the hands of hope have withdrawn
could you try to help me hang on?
it runs…

I straight
I won’t crack
on my way
and I can’t turn back
I’m okay
I’m on track
on my way
and I can’t turn back
I stayed
on this track
gone too far
and I can’t come back
I stayed
on this track
lost my way
can’t come back
